High Peak Singers
High Peak Singers was founded by Hannah Brine in May 2022 and tonight is the choir’s third concert. The choir rehearses on Monday evenings and new members are welcome. High Peak Singers is a mixed voice choir (sopranos, altos, tenors and basses) for adults aged 18+. There are no auditions and you don’t need to read music, though it is encouraged to allow the choir to develop and sing a range of repertoire. If you are interested in joining for the Autumn term or would like to find out more, please email info@highpeaksingers.co.uk.
A limited number of bursaries are available for adults aged 18+ who would like to attend the choir but due to their financial situation are unable to do so. We are particularly interested in awarding bursaries to singers where participation will have a positive impact on individuals’ physical or mental health.
Hannah Brine
Originally from Leicester, Hannah moved to Derbyshire in April 2022, and has launched two community choirs since her arrival – High Peak Singers and Bollington Singers. During her decade in London she founded Finsbury Park Singers, Victoria Park Singers, and ITV Voices. She coached the choir for, and sang with, Gary Barlow for his 2016 Royal Variety performance and his 2017 Olivier Awards, for which he was the opening act, and also performed with Gary on BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing.
Her session credits include Disney, Upstart Crow and various dance releases, including her 2022 single You & I, which reached number 1 of the worldwide Trance charts. She can also be found composing for choirs. Her virtual choir piece Winter Lark, written during the 2020 pandemic, was first aired on Scala Radio, and Ray of Sunlight was performed last year by the London Symphony Orchestra’s Discovery Youth Choir. In 2015 Hannah was named a BBC Unsung Hero for her work with her Hackney-based choir, Victoria Park Singers.
Ed Simpson – accompanist
Ed has lived in Derbyshire all his life. He studied at Chetham’s School of Music for 10 years from 2001. For 5 of those years Ed trained as a chorister at Manchester Cathedral. He toured Paris and sang at Notre Dame and Saint Sulpice. He also toured America and performed in New York City. Ed sang for the Queen’s Golden Jubilee service in 2002 and sang for BBC Songs of Praise. He regularly sang for BBC Radio 3 broadcasts and made several recordings. As Ed’s voice changed he had to re-audition as an instrumentalist at the age of 13, and focused on the bassoon as his first study. He also studied the organ and contra bassoon as his additional studies. His love for jazz meant that he could study jazz piano in his last two years of school. Since the age of 18 left when he left school, he has been building his business as a piano/singing teacher and accompanist for choirs in the local north Derbyshire area where he lives, in Hayfield, teaching at New Mills High School, several primary schools and at home.
